Here’s a small glimpse into other sides of my life.
Pyrography is the art of drawing on wood by burning it with an electric burner.
Below are some pieces I made as gifts. Some are burned onto wooden plates woodturned by Gershon Elber.

A pleasant surprise: a poem of mine at the Weizmann Institute of Science (2025)
My speech at the Poetry of Science award ceremony, Weizmann Institute (2020)
From my Poetry of Science speech (video above) -- Hebrew and English translation
As long as I can remember, I’ve looked up at the sky in awe. The longing to grasp something of this universe - its unimaginable scale and complexity - and to understand my place within it, as a grain drifting on a grain that orbits another grain; this pull toward the unknown is one of the forces that guides my life.
As a teenager, I went deeper into these questions and discovered something wondrous: the iron in my blood, the calcium in my bones, the oxygen and carbon that make me up - each of them was forged in the hearts of stars. The particles that make up me were once particles of a star. And before that, some of them lived in the body of a dinosaur, some blossomed on an almond branch, and some were carried by the wind until they landed on the eyelid of a little girl in the Stone Age who was looking up at the sky.
It was probably the happiest thought I’ve ever had.
We are stardust; we are the sky; we are the universe’s chance to explore itself - and to turn that exploration into poetry.

English translation:
A Straight Line in the Fourth Dimension
To get from C to E on the piano
you can pass through D,
but you can also dance your way there
through a Chopin Waltz.
To get from one point to another,
you can plot a dutiful line with a ruler,
but you can also paint
a blossoming almond branch.
To get from Aleph to Tav,
you can string up the alphabet single file,
or you can draft a poem
about Eros, Thanatos, and all that lies between them.
Art is not the most efficient thing to do,
and perhaps that is why it brings us comfort.
For who would want a life
that, from the womb to the grave,
is nothing but a straight line
in the fourth dimension?

In 2022, after years of admiring slime molds alone in the woods, I founded the Facebook group "Slime Molds Israel". Since then, it has grown into a community of thousands of enthusiasts, uncovering tiny worlds one damp tree log at a time. Together with Tal Kokh, Tal Shaul, Omer Meshulam, Eyal Keren and Nitsan Bar-Shmuel, we organize public events and tours, communicate the beauty of slime molds to various audiences, and document the species we find (we’ve documented various species that were previously unreported in the region!).
Much of what we currently know about Israel's slime molds is gathered on a website created and maintained by the legendary Tal Shaul. We also collaborate with Yonatan Gur at Tel Aviv university, collecting and sharing specimens from the region.
You can read popular-science pieces I wrote about slime molds here (Hebrew) and here (Hebrew, English).
Beyond slime molds, I’m a great advocate of citizen science. I love how anyone with open eyes can contribute to research simply by observing the world around them (for example through platforms like iNaturalist).
I’m not a photographer, and I don’t have the gear to capture slime molds in their full brilliance, but below are some photos I’ve taken to give a sense of their diversity and beauty.
They're this tiny!
When you peer into tiny worlds, you often meet other creatures - like this rarely-seen beetle - that otherwise stay hidden from view.
